Imus has been on vacation for the last two weeks but somehow he still managed to make the news cycle.David Hinckley of the Daily News June 16th, 2009 writes.
For latecomers, the backstory is this: Letterman's monologue on June 8 included a joke about Palin's daughter being "knocked up" by Alex Rodriguez during the seventh inning stretch of a Yankees game.
Letterman later claimed he thought he was joking about 18-year-old Bristol Palin, who did get knocked up. Trouble is, the Palin daughter who attended the game was Willow, who is 14, which makes it a different joke.
In any case, assuming Letterman is telling the truth, this was no more or less tasteful than a thousand other Dave jokes over many years. That's the kind of jokes he tells. This was just the first one for which he had to apologize twice, half-jokingly last week and quite seriously – well, as serious as Dave ever gets – last night.
Palin said today the second apology was sufficient. Whether it will also pacify those want Dave's scalp may take a little longer to resolve, because they obviously consider this way too righteous a crusade to simply drop.
The good news for Dave is that while CBS can't be happy about any of this, there has been no indication he's going to be Imus'd over it.

The Boycott of Letterman's Advertisers, for some reason, all over the political blogs, people are under the impression, that these protest and boycotts are strictly Conservative and Republican movements. But they are anything but N.O.W. is a Liberal Organization. PUMAS as in Hillbuzz, I would describe as Moderate. There are Conservatives who belong to Republican, Democrat and Independent Partys. This isn't a partisan issue. It isn't even a gender issue, many men are reacting in the negative to women, and children being treated this way by a late night show host. My advice to Letterman and his writers, try hitting above the navel with your jokes, and stop apologizing. They can hope something in the news cycle takes over this story. Why does this issue linger? People -Viewers aka Consumers of the products, Networks get their advertising dollars from, that in turn pays the salaries of all these folks, involved in programing and broadcasting, HAVE REACHED A TIPPING POINT. There is an old saying live by the sword - die by the sword, the same goes for speech and words. David Letterman knows he went to far but he can't admit it was anything more than a flawed joke. Well sure partly, look at this if people don't believe the cable news outlets are using filler to fill their news cycle. The President swatting a fly pretty much shows how trivial the news cycle can get. But there is something more going on. People are tired of gutter politics, it has reached a Tipping Point, and David Letterman gets to be the recipient of all the pent up angst, that has been growing since the Presidential Campaign started. Our current President of the United States of America stated during the campaign, to leave our spouses and children alone. What happened? His spouse and children were left alone. Even Joe Biden's children were left alone. I don't hear to0 many jokes about his daughter?
I was watching Fox & Friends, and they had on George Lopez who stated he voted for Obama so I am guessing he is a Democrat and a Liberal. He stated plainly, you don't make jokes like the one made by Letterman about children. On the other hand a Conservative Canadian Comic Steven Crowder thinks it was nothing to be upset about. Fair & Balanced? So the Liberal in this case gets it, and the Conservative thinks the whole incident is about Politics.
21% Indentify Liberal, for example N.O.W.

40% Indentify Conservative, for example voted for Palin last November.
So who is CBS programing their network for? For that matter who are any of the networks programing their networks for? Not The American Viewing Public. They appear to be programing their networks for the current U.S. Administration, and the Party in Power of the House and Senate. How are their ratings? Not so hot, I am watching the Style channel a lot myself. Why? The treatment of Average Americans in this country by a corporate owned media, has reached it's Tipping Point. A few examples, the treatment of women candidates in the last Presidential Election. The treatment of TEA PARTY protestors. ABC 20/20 Hidden America Children Of The Mountain And The View. David Letterman was just the Tipping Point. The American Viewing Pubic, has reached their limit of toleration for this insulting behavior, being directed toward them. Slutty Flight Attendants Dave? Really, you don't think they deserve any respect? Children by definition would be people under 21 years of age, otherwise known as legally adult, they can drink adult beverages ect.
So David Letterman has had to swallow his words but it may not be enough to apologize. In my opinion Apologizing is a mistake unless it is given not demanded. I don't think he should be fired, I think the Free Market should decide. I think people should vote with their remotes. I looked at the Poll CBS put up right after his last apology "Do you accept David Letterman's Apology" 28% yes and 72% no. Dave made a mistake when he made his apology by mentioning his audience. He said, It isn't your fault that you misunderstood the joke, it was a flawed joke. Note to Dave, No one wants to share in the personal hell, you created for your self, leave the audience out of it.
Has the lesson been learned? Does David Letterman and Network CEOs get it yet? That constantly insulting their audience Average Americans is bad for business? Governor Sarah Palin didn't win the last election so when will our American Media start behaving like Good Sports? As far as Imus is concerned, there really isn't a comparison. He just stepped on his Dick, and now he is paying for it, actually he is paying for all of it.
