Heavy Metal Cheesecake

Remember "Heavy Metal" easily one of the best animation movies of all time, with a great soundtrack. Then there was "Heavy Metal 2000" There is talk of a "New Heavy Metal" movie. Imus was talking about the Top 100 Rock Albums this morning. No Heavy Metal sound track in the Top 100 Rock Albums. Now some would argue that Metal is in it's own category, okay fine. But explain to me how Tracy Chapman a Folk Singer came in #199. Who puts these list together? But surely everyone recognizes Sammy Hagar the Redrocker as a Rock Star. Metallica made this Top 100 Rock Albums list multiple times. The Official Heavy Metal Website. You can judge for yourself if it meets Cheesecake standards.
HEAVY METAL LOUDER AND NASTIER THAN EVER!

TGIF "Circus Life" Clowns to the Left of Me, Jokers to the Right

When I was a child growing up, little did I know my favorite TV program was preparing me for what was coming down the road in my adult life. This photo is of J.P.Patches a local Seattle TV Icon, with a statue of him created in his Honor.

Clowns & Jokers, you don't have to look far to find them they're all around today. Everyone wants to be in Showbiz. Chris Mathews of MSNBC can't get over Antebellum Architecture, Here responding to Southern Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, speech back drop. Does Chris Mathews know that Louisiana is about as Deep South as you can get, what was he Expecting? The truth is pointing out Clowns & Jokers today is like Shooting Fish in a Barrel & HERE. For example, here is how Germany observed Carnival this Year.

Today's guest on Imus in the Morning, Donald Trump, knows something about Clowns & Jokers himself. He was discussing this Seasons Celebrity Apprentice, and the cast. This year's cast includes Clint Black, Andrew Dice Clay, Annie Duke, Tom Green, Natalie Gulbis, Scott Hamilton, Jesse James, Claudia Jordan, Khloe Kardashian, Brian McKnight, Joan Rivers, Melissa Rivers, Brande Roderick, Dennis Rodman, Herschel Walker ....Donald Trump also weighs in on the Bailouts, the Banks, and the Economy. You can listen to Donald Trump HERE.

This Week on Imus in the Morning, Lou Dobbs discusses the Economy, our Government's lack of attention to our National Security. The Second Amendment, Lou Dobbs, thinks our Attorney General Eric Holder, should concentrate on his JOB. You Can Listen to Lou Dobbs on Imus in the Morning Here. Is our Government full of Bozos, you will have to listen and decide for yourself.

Then there is this, Clint Eastwood thinks political correctness has made society humourless. I think Clint just doesn't know where to look. Here is one my Favorite Clowns.

I guess I am not the only one noticing this trend, Chickaboomer CNN: Send In The Clowns.

Lately, I find myself relating to the Joker from Batman Dark Knight, more and more. The Joker: You have all these rules and you think they’ll save you. Lately it seems to me only Suckers follow the Rules.

Van Morisson Imus Guest Thursday 26 February 2009 UPDATE: Listen to Interview

Van Morrison, Imus guest tomorrow 26 February 2009. I really enjoy Van Morrison's music. My favorite song to date would be "Wild Nights" I have not listened to "Astral Weeks" but I intend on buying the CD. The CD "Astral Weeks" has been released you can purchase it among other places online HERE. I also got hooked on "Behind the Ritual" from his Keep it Simple CD. Imus played this tune, when it was released in 2008. Drinking Wine in the Alley, Drinking Wine in the Alley....reminds me of my busy youth, out behind the Top Hat in the alley Missoula, Montana. The Top Hat always had live music, and everyone would mix together in this Missoula hot spot. You could run into Japanese businessmen, University professors, I know my sister, best friend, and I were partying with them, and blue collar folks from the pope mill, lawyers, local businessmen, cowboys, prostitutes and johns, bikers, college kids, you get the idea. Van Morrison and Imus would have felt at home. UPDATE: Listen To Van Morrison Interview Here On Imus In The Morning. Van Morrison quote "I'm not really a digital artist....I don't really believe in the myth of, ya know I mean, I think of certain acts, yeah of course, that's for certain age group or whatever, my people want hard copy" That's true but you can listen to Van's "Keep It Simple" Here On Lost Highway Records. A fan talks about what, Behind the Ritual meant to Him Here.

An Affair to Remember "Fidelity Test"

Here is an update to yesterday's story. The Fidelity test was done this morning around 7:40am. They called Michael "Cheating Fiance" and told him that they were from his bank. They stated all purchases he had made in the last 60 days put him in a drawing to win a free 2 day stay at a hotel. He asked all the pertinent questions ex: "do I have to give out any personal info" The radio station DJ "Janet" was smooth she told him that a letter would be sent to him, and there would be a number to call and verify. All she needed was to put him down, and any other person that was going to be staying at the hotel with him. Rachel "the fiance being cheated on" was listening in the background as this conversation was going on. Michael, said "Put Pam (last name bleeped out) on the list. At this point Rachel chimes in "You Son of a Bitch" He continued to lie to her until he found out he was on the radio, where he proceeded to hang up on them. Here is my question though: Why is no one speaking to Pam about any of this? Seems to me she is just as much of a skank as Michael is. Click to hear The Fidelity test podcast.

Third day into this....UPDATE: on what happened with Rachel and Michael here is the podcast (CLICK HERE) She's changing the locks!

An Affair To Remember, Heartache In The Heartland

A funny thing happened when I was driving my son to school this morning "Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else ~ Will Rogers" I was listening to KJ103. FM, The TJ, Janet & JROD, in the morning show, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. TJ, was relaying a driving experience of his own, that happened yesterday when he was dropping his mother off at the Airport. TJ was watching the flow of people being dropped off and picked up. He noticed another car pulling up in front of him, a man being dropped off by a woman, he thought she was probably his wife in some kind of Red SUV, they both got out, and embrace then they said their good byes. The man goes into the Airport, the SUV drives off. BUT then a few minutes later, the man comes back out and a different car pulls up, and he gives the woman inside the car a hug, and then they drive off. This account in itself wasn't the biggest surprise, it is the call TJ, gets next, in response to his On Air account of "An Affair to Remember" Caller You're on the Air. People please Dee Jays don't wreck romances, short term parking ruins romances GRIN. At least the caller is driving a domestic a Ford Explorer so Detroit that's #1. Tomorrow The Fidelity Test. Dee Jays trolling for Cheaters, looks like TJ is getting more then a nibble. Listen to Heartache in the Heartland Here. Hey TJ how about you do a follow up, and find out if the Guy has a wide stance. This is after all an Airport related romance.

Imus Guest, Paul Begala "The Game Plan"

Imus guest this morning Paul Begala, runs down the poll numbers, for the President and Congress. Governing through polling, this really is Bill Clinton's third term. Apparently the new Obama administration will be Governing by polling too. Imus and Begala discuss re branding CNN. If Barack Obama is America's new Quarterback Ala The Rock, which part is Paul Begala playing? I keep asking HERE. Imus tells Paul Begala, that nothing is working, Paul Begala responds, he's been in 30 days. Whatever happened to Ready Day One? Paul Begala, goes over The Rundown, the speech President Obama will be giving this evening, he will be speaking about Energy, Education, and Health Care. I love the quote from the Rock movie poster, The Rundown "Cut to the Chase". Imus ask Paul Begala, how about all this bi partisanship you all were talking about? Paul Begala, I am a lot less for all this bi partisanship then most Americans are. Sigh...President Obama can't seem to get his choir to all sing the same tune. Maybe he needs a New Choir Director. I mean if the Game Plan is to bring everything from the Clinton playbook back, for example Governance through polling. Karl Rove suggests, that the Obama administration is winging it but I believe they are just going back to the Clinton Well. Paul Begala starts in with his Rush Limbaugh is the root of all evil spiel. Begala can't get over Rush Limbaugh, and his use of Viagra, seems like Paul Begala can't get off the Rush uses prescription drugs rant, yada, yada, yada. It reminds me of the Play "The Vagina Monologues" but in this case it would be the "Viagra Monologues" We get it, Rush shouldn't enjoy sex, he doesn't have a vagina GRIN. I woke up to Paul Begala this morning on Imus in the Morning, and I am still wondering "Who is running this Mickey Mouse Outfit" You can listen to Paul Begala, on Imus in the Morning Here.

Note to Disney, I've seen this movie too. Wag the Dog.
To 'wag the dog' means to purposely divert attention from what would otherwise be of greater importance, to something else of lesser significance. By doing so, the lesser-significant event is catapulted into the limelight, drowning proper attention to what was originally the more important issue.
The expression comes from the saying that 'a dog is smarter than its tail', but if the tail were smarter, then the tail would 'wag the dog'.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (2009 Schedule) "THE TEMPEST"

Things to do when you find yourself in Missoula, Montana in the Summer. This Summer's Shakespeare in the Parks tour, will be performing "The Tempest" and "The Two Gentlemen of Verona"

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks
has been touring Montana, northern Wyoming and eastern Idaho since 1973, with performances of free, professional outdoor theatre. An outreach program of Montana State University, it is the only completely professional touring theatre program in the state that produces Shakespeare’s plays, the only Shakespeare company in the country to reach as extensively into rural areas, and the only company in the state that offers its performances free to the public.

In order to maintain free performances that are high quality and available to all, funds are raised throughout the year through a combination of foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations and the exclusive Shakespeare in the Parks’ fundraiser-The Toast of the Town. END.

Shakespeare's play The Tempest is believed to be based on the wreck of the Sea Venture, a flag ship for the Virginia Company. Built and tasked to bringing much needed supplies to the Jamestown Colony. My own ancestor William Cantrell was transported on the 1st Supply aboard the Phoenix 1608, Captained by Captain Nelson.

The Loss of the Sea Venture,
The Admiral of the Company, Sir George Somers himself, was at the helm through the storm. When he spied land on the morning of July 25, the water in the hold had risen to nine feet, and crew and passengers had been driven past the point of exhaustion. Somers deliberately drove the ship onto the reefs of what proved to be Bermuda in order to prevent its foundering. This allowed all 150 people aboard, and one dog, to be landed safely ashore.

This reminds me of another Captain recently in the news, Capt Chelsey Sullenberg. What would Bill Shakespeare have done with the Miracle on the Hudson?

(Note to Al Gore, Global Warming Tempest Creator. The Wreck of the Sea Venture, was believed to be caused by a hurricane, the year was 1609) There is evidence of early hurricane activity, relating to North America and the U.S seaboard. This doesn't take into account, Indigenous people's accounts using their mythology to describe wind activity. Hiawatha Ojibway Indian Prince, Hiawatha's father was the fickle West Wind accused of killing Hiawatha's mother. There is also the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975, for example, you can read about here, in the Graveyard of the Lakes. You can listen to Gordon Lightfoot's tribute The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. Lyrics: The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind

Sometimes a Natural Disaster is just a Natural Disaster.

TGIF "Circus Life" I Write Sins, Not Tragedies

Re Cap Week In Review. It was a busy week just ask Nancy Pelosi, Air Traffic Controller, key word control. The Speaker of the house had a Senator from Ohio Sherrod Brown, flown in from his mother's wake to vote on the "Bend Us Over Bill" aka Stimulus Bill. The Speaker of the House couldn't wait for the U.S. Senate to vote on the largest spending bill in American history, she needed to fly off to Italy. Madame Speaker (Self proclaimed devoted Catholic) had an appointment with the Pope to keep. Something about her being some kind of Theological Scholar and Expert on the Church's position when Life starts. The Pope a Catholic himself, points out there is a "Natural Moral Law". The Pope bringing up Morals to the Speaker of the House, right after this monumental transfer of American Taxpayer Money to Government Pork Projects. I wonder how that inconvenient subject of Natural Moral Law, went over with a woman, high on a Partisan Power Rush? Remember the new era of bi partisanship this Administration claimed it wanted to usher in? There was the Travis the Chimp tragedy. Wild animals belong in The Wild this is a no brainer. The New York Post reported the story "Furious George" and then got carried away with the whole Chimp Gone Wild Idea with A Page Six Cartoon but have since rethought the imagery. Then there was Attorney General Eric Holder, calling Americans "Cowards" for not living up to his expectations of race relations in America. Lets not forget the hot water the latest Senator from Illinois, Senator Burris has found himself in. Senator Dick Durbin, interrupted his junket to Greece to weigh in on Senator Burris....The Democrats always jetting off somewhere. What about that Carbon Foot Print, and Cost To American Taxpayers? After all we have been told this is the worse financial crisis in American History since the Great Depression. The President told us so or in so many words to this effect, it is why that massive historic spending bill had to be passed, without anyone reading what they passed into law. Of course it could wait until the President, and the First Lady got back from jetting to Chicago, for him to sign. Oh I almost forgot, that's right he had to jet to Denver, Colorado to sign "The Generational Theft Act of 2009" into law . There is a blogger that keeps track of the Obama Administration, you can read about Who is Robert Wolf Here. Hint he is another banker, surprise, surprise.

The best of Imus in the Morning, this week would go to Laura Ingraham hands down. Followed by Matt Taibbi and Col Jack Jacobs. I also enjoyed Robert George, from the New York Post, you can listen to the interview here on Imus in the Morning. Matt Tabbi 19 Feb 2009, Interview Here.

Please Check out Mr Robert George's latest blog post here, on RAGGED THOTS, "Race-Holder"

Laura Ingraham, Brings The Pain!

Laura Ingraham, this mornings guest on Imus in the Morning. Laura weighs in on the new Obama administration it's handling of the economy, specifically the drop in the Dow Jones Average, 2011 points since the November Presidential election that's 25 %. Laura has a list of painful events, that have taken place since our historic Presidential election. Imus says, I hope we are not in for another Jimmy Carter. Laura: slap a sweater on him, and you're not going to be able to tell the difference. Laura comments on Robert Gibbs, The extended Obama family, Grandma Sarah Obama, Nancy Peolosi, and her meeting with the Pope. Laura: This is a Flop House of Incompetence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Laura Ingraham quote "This Economy needs whatever A Rod shot in his butt" There is a reason Laura Ingraham is on so many radio stations. Rep Thaddeus McCotter Michigan, Detroit City U.S.A.

GM, Chrysler to Submit Restructuring Plans TodayTuesday, February 17, 2009

General Motors and the United Auto Workers union made progress in concession talks and bondholders offered proposals to slash GM's debt, a day before the automaker must detail a new survival plan.

U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, a Michigan Republican, told Reuters progress in GM's talks with its bondholders appeared to have spurred progress in its talks with the UAW, which is also being pressed to forgive debt.

"They will get this done," said McCotter, who sits on the House Financial Services Committee that heard testimony from automakers as part of the bailout debate." Keep reading here.

Diane Sawyer 20/20 A Hidden America Children of the Mountains UPDATE

How Much of the 20/20 Special A Hidden America, Children of the Mountains was for Political purposes to encourage the passage of the so called "Stimulus Bill" Senator Mitch McConnell (R) Kentucky, Minority Senate Leader, did not support the Pork Filled Bill. Diane Sawyer wants America to believe all of SE Kentucky is representative of these people she covered for her special? Is this special really politically motivated to respond to Senator Mitch McConnell's opposition to the so called Stimulus Bill, that had no support in The House, and had only 3 Moderate Republicans vote for it in the Senate. Since when is it the place of journalist to promote legislation in Congress?

This is Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's speech on the almost trillion dollar spending bill. The Ladys of the View would like us to believe passing this so called "Stimulus Bill" will help the poor of SE Kentucky, in Senator McConnell's home state. I will believe this "Pork Filled Bill" will help the People of SE Kentucky, when Pigs Fly.

Diane Sawyer 20/20 Hidden America, Children of the Mountains

Guest Blogger History Chaser
by Janet Crain
In an area where the people have been exploited time and time again, was the 20/20 documentary: Hidden America; Children of the Mountain with
Diane Sawyer just another exploitation?
The show has angered many and prompted strong, too strong perhaps, denial that these conditions of poverty and neglect exist, by many other present or former residents of the central Kentucky region. Some others from outside the region have expressed much sympathy, others dismiss the Appalachian people as shiftless, drunken, drug addicted Hillbillies. They forget or never knew that these people's parents and grandparents contributed mightily to the defeat of Hitler and the Nazis. Signs were posted in the coal company stores, with a picture of Uncle Sam and the words "Don't be a slacker, the country needs coal!"
And the older men and rejects from the draft board labored underground 12 to 16 hours a day in a mighty effort to meet that need. While their healthier sons and brothers died in greater numbers in battle than from any other region in WWII.
But to really understand the conditions and how they came to be, read Harry M. Caudill's 1963 book, Night Comes to the Cumberlands: A Biography of a Depressed Area, the seminal work on the subject of how Big Timber and Big Coal destroyed the land and many of the people with it. First the timber was sold off by people who had no idea of its value beginning back in the 1880's. And hard rains then washed away the topsoil making it much harder to earn a living by farming. The people were glad to see the coal mining come in and worked very hard for a few dollars a day. Most of their wages ended up in the company store and they drew little hard cash.
Many have been on the "dole" and prescription painkillers for over fifty years through no fault of their own.
Company doctors were unskilled and behind the times and begain the drug problem by dispensing pain killers for the slightest symptoms. Depression was the main illness from living in a dreary coal camp where women soon learned the futility of trying to keep their house clean. The company doctor would prescribe pain killers for "nerves" to dull their misery. Later when good doctors were brought in during the boom times when the industry was doing really well, they refused to prescribe the precious pills and the people would not go back to them. If they needed something serious like surgery they would go to the company hospital, but sought out the old doctors for their everyday complaints.
So you see the dependency started early. And just got worse. The land and the people have been exploited over and over again and I just don't know how this situation could be made better. But the young people are their treasure, if only their lives could be made better
Yes, many have excelled and prospered. And for many years in a row, only about 5% of High School graduates stayed in Appalachia. The region contributed their natural resources and their best and brightest young people to the rest of the nation and received very little in return.
How many times can your heart be broken until you just simply give up?
A wiser person than I once told me, "Just remember, there but for the grace of God go I."
And I will leave it at that.

The Buffalo Soldiers - Fort Missoula, Montana

The 25th Infantry gained fame and was nicknamed the Buffalo Soldiers.

Wikipedia Fort Missoula was established by the United States Army in 1877 on land that is now part of the city of Missoula, Montana, to protect white settlers in Western Montana from possible threats from the native American Indians, such as the Nez Perce.

Beginning in 1888, Fort Missoula was home to the famous Buffalo Soldiers of the 25th Infantry Regiment (3rd Formation). While stationed at Fort Missoula, this unit tested the practicality of soldiers traveling by bicycles by conducting numerous training rides, with one ride all the way to St. Louis, Missouri. Interestingly, the Trans-America Bicycle Trail established in 1976 goes through Missoula, and covers some of the routes pedaled by the 25th Regiment, During World War II Fort Missoula housed a prison camp for Italian POWs, who called the area Bella Vista.[2]

*My father was stationed at Ft Missoula after WWII, Missoula, Montana, where he met my mother. My Mother's grandparents had settled in a little place called "Bonita" in 1894, today Bonita can only be found on a forestry map. The draw of settlers to Montana started with "The Homestead Act"

It was not until May 20, 1862, that the free Homestead Act was finally passed and signed by President Abraham Lincoln. The law took effect on January 1, 1863.

PBS had a series about these early Montana Settlers, they started arriving in 1883 "Frontier House"

My Great Grandparents traveled by wagon train from St Joseph, Missouri. My Great Grandmother would give birth to a child along the way in Buffalo, Wyoming, she would later lose that child and another to "tick fever" My Grandmother would lose her first husband to tick fever. They arrived in Montana in 1894 with friends and extended family. My Great Grandfather would get up every morning at 3:00 A.M. and go to the Mines, when he finished there he would go to the Saw Mill, they also had a working ranch, due to the homestead act signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln. Out of the first settlers into Montana 88% would give up due to the hardships and move on. The 25th Infantry was already stationed at Ft Missoula in 1888, to protect the wave of pioneers moving in and settling the Montana Frontier.

I think this shows how the lives of Abraham Lincoln, Americans are celebrating his birthday today, and contributions of African Americans, the 25th Infantry "Iron Riders" February is Black History Month, have influenced my family personally.

Of Course the reason anyone was able to settle Montana in the first place started with Lewis & Clark and The Voyage of Discovery, that was enacted by President Thomas Jefferson. York, the slave of William Clark, was also a member of the Corp of Discovery read more about York here. You can read more about Lewis & Clark, "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen E Ambrose.

More African American Contributions, Celebrating Lincoln and Black History Month.

UPDATE: This is a photo of my Grandfather who worked as a cook, on the right, and his step son, my Uncle, who worked for the Forestry Dept., he was a Deputy Forest Ranger, standing on the porch of the Bonita Ranger Station. Mentioned in above Missoulian article highlighted Bonita.

Bill White President of Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

Imus's guest this morning Bill White President of The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

New facility will focus on traumatic brain injuries.

So far 51 million dollars has been raised for the new center, they need 65 million dollars. The new center will be a state of the art rehabilitation center for military service people suffering from post traumatic brain injuries.

This morning Imus was speaking to Bill White about taking care of our Military Service People, returning Veterans. Some Vets, have been wounded, during the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a great need for returning Veterans to get medical attention and rehabilitation. I flipped over to Fox & Friends, this morning. F&F, had the Mayor of Philadelphia on, and he was explaining why the Philadelphia Zoo should receive 20 million dollars, to address the Zoo's infrastructure (from the stimulus bill). This 20 million dollars will create 222 jobs. I don't exactly understand how 20 million dollars to the Philadelphia Zoo, stimulates the Country's Economy? MR. KILMEADE: In Philadelphia they want infrastructure for the children's zoo -- another zoo issue! I did note the contrast between the two different segments, one on Fox & Friends, and the other on Imus in the Morning. Our Government isn't addressing our Military Service People's health needs, returning from duty with REAL health concerns but our Government is going to take 20 million of taxpayers dollars for Zoo infrastructure? Meanwhile Bill White and others are trying to raise private dollars - from donations, to take care of our wounded American Military Service People. To say that the people in Congress have their priorities upside down, would be an understatement. Where is the leadership from the Commander and Chief?

This is an open letter to President Obama, from a Marine Wife you can read Here At Villainous Company

You can listen to Bill White here on Imus In The Morning Here.

Michael Graham 96.9 WTKK, channels his inner Camille Paglia

This mornings guest Michael Graham of 96.9 WTKK, comments on Obama's first couple of weeks in office, and Tim Geithner's performance on yesterdays televised appearance. Listening to the observations this morning on Imus in the Morning, and reading Camille Paglia's online article for Salon "a rocky first start" I was reminded of the movie "Failure To Launch" synopsis for "Failure To Launch" an adult man won't leave his parent's home, and start his adult life because he has it made at home, (or say on the campaign trail) he doesn't have to assume adult responsibilities. His parents go to great lengths to get their adult son out of their home. The parents hire an Interventionist. The Obama administration appears to be having their own failure to launch. We need to hire an Interventionist. They can dismiss Michael Graham's critique of their administrations dismal debut but when Camille Paglia agrees, it is time for some introspection and an intervention. Graham and Paglia, on the same page, this isn't the change I was expecting. This looks like President Obama is unifying the country. The kind of dogs and cats living together kind of unification, not exactly a natural relationship. Michael Graham & Imus agree, Secretary Tim Geithner needs to shut up, every time he speaks, the stock market goes down. My opinion, not that anyone asked GRIN. I think it is past time for someone in the Obama administration to stop and assess the last few weeks, and figure out the campaign is over. Failure To Launch indeed.

Kinky Freidman, Handicapable Lion Tamer

Kinky Freidman Imus's guest this morning on Imus in the Morning.
Kinky is still writing for Texas Monthly every other month. The next issue coming out in March. Kinky refers to the upcoming Governor contest between Rick Perry & Kay Hutchinson as the contest of the cheerleaders. They discuss where Imus's famous catch phrase "I'm Not Happy Till You're Not Happy" originated. Kinky wants to run on the Democrat ticket for Governor. Kinky runs Utopia Rescue Ranch. Kinky and Imus discuss Obama's administration so far. Kinky says he's fine but it was a mistake to bail out the "Banksters" It is creating this angry rising tide of populism. Kinky believes that the state of Texas is moving toward Populism.

B & I The Circus Store, Ivan the Gorilla "Circus Life"

When I was a child, my Dad would take me to B & I the Circus Store. This Store was opened in 1946, it is an iconic part of South Tacoma Way. B & I even has a my space page Here. The owner wanted to get a photo of then President Eisenhower, driving by the store in his motorcade. It never happened so the owner Mr Irwin, had a photograph of how it might have happened taken 10-19-1956. I remember shopping for shoes, and my Dad buying me popcorn like we were at the circus. The B & I not your typical Big Box Store - The theme of the store was the Circus. I can only imagine how many memories were made at the B & I.

There was a famous resident of this Circus Store. A Gorilla named Ivan, yes I remember Ivan. Did I understand even when I was young Ivan's captivity, and the reason for his captivity a draw for curiosity seekers? My memory of Ivan was that of a Gorilla kept in vicinity of humans with in our reach sometimes. Ivan didn't look happy - he didn't look unhappy. Probably if I could describe what I witnessed as a child, and it is colored by my knowledge as an Adult, I would say he looked bored. I am among the many that were happy that Ivan was transferred to a Zoo in Atlanta. Ivan has been painting, and some of his Art Work is on display. You can read more about Ivan's life Here and an older article Here.

I would like to see Ivan again someday. Do I like the idea Ivan is in a Zoo? I understand his reality, he was meant to be in the Wild but that can't happen at least now he has other Gorillas, and not just us for Company. He took up painting, what an interesting enduring spirit this famous Silverback displays. Here is a link to Ivan on you tube, I guess this is what happens once you get the circus life in your blood....

Fred Imus Proves Radio Is Still Relative

Fred Imus comments on the stimulus package. "When they get rid of all this money, nobody will know exactly what happened to it. Because there are so many crooks in Washington, and running these companies, they will figure out a way to steal it. The economy will turn around in maybe two or three years but it won't have anything to do with the stimulus package." Imus ask Fred, how he feels about Obama. Fred says we're stuck with him, Imus reminds him it has only been two and a half weeks. Fred: seems like it's been a longer it seems like four years already, and it has only been two weeks. I'm waiting for that change he was talking about which includes him. He can't get out of office fast enough. He is so naive, he wants to talk to Iran. Richard Goodwin's The Hinge of the World

The American premiere of Richard Goodwin's The Hinge of the World — directed by Edward Hall — will play the B.U. Theatre March 6-April 5, 2009. The play, according to the Huntington, "captures the moment 400 years ago when Galileo raised his telescope to the skies and created theories that shook society to its core. As word spreads from Venice to Rome, the scientist becomes a target for Pope Urban VIII and his Catholic brethren. Brought before the Holy Inquisition, Galileo is forced to choose between his religion and his life's work in this intelligent, thought-provoking epic drama about the struggle between reason and faith."

The Day The Music Died, February 3, 1959

Texas Monthly February 2009

Searching for the ghost of Buddy Holly in Clear Lake, Iowa.

it came out of the sky about five miles north of Clear Lake, Iowa, and slammed into the frozen earth. The right wing dug a six-inch-deep furrow for 57 feet as it disintegrated into bits of fabric and metal. The fuselage bounced hard, careening and ripping apart over the next 500 feet while the nose gear, door frame, and tail cone were all smashed loose and scattered, until what was left of the red Beechcraft B35 Bonanza finally came to rest against a barbed-wire fence at one end of a long, empty cornfield. It was just past 1 a.m. Deep inside the twisted mass was the body of the pilot. Outside lay the bodies of three young men who had been thrown from the plane at more than 100 miles per hour. They had all been killed on impact, their bodies broken, their heads smashed open. Keep Reading Here and Here

Go Tell The Spartans, One Of My All Time Favorite Movies 1978,Staring Burt Lancaster

This movie has an interesting correlation to Homeland Security's color coded threat system, that was introduced after 9/11. View the segment in the movie here.
This is one of Burt Lancaster's best performances although I think his performance, and the movie has been under rated. The movie is set in Vietnam, when Americas involvement in the conflict was still that of Advisers. The French had already been involved in the Vietnam Conflict, and they left behind a cemetery. The unit comes upon the cemetery. The sign over the cemetery was written in French, there is only one person in the in the unit who could translate,
Corporal Courcey recites: "Stranger, when you find us lying here, go tell the Spartans that we did our duty." This was in reference to, The film's title is from Simonides's epitaph to the three hundred soldiers who died fighting Persian invaders at Thermopylae, Greece: "Go tell the Spartans, passerby, that here, obedient to their laws, we lie." Wikipedia Go Tell The Spartans.
Burt Lancaster comments on making "Go Tell The Spartans" I highly recommend Go Tell The Spartans, one of the better, and I believe overlooked movies about our involvement in Vietnam.

Monster Quest "History Channel" Dragons & Myths

St George Slaying the Dragon.

St George & The Dragon Legend
, Wikipedia.
According to the Golden Legend the narrative episode of Saint George and the Dragon took place in a place he called "Silene," in Libya. There was no such place, the name being perhaps a corruption of Cyrene. The Golden Legend is the first to place this legend in Libya, as a sufficiently exotic locale, where a dragon might be imagined.

This town had a pond large as a lake where a plague-bearing dragon dwelled that envenomed all the countryside. To appease the dragon, the people of Silene used to feed it a sheep every day, and when the sheep failed, they fed it their children, chosen by lottery.

It happened that the lot fell on the king's daughter. The king, distraught with grief, told the people they could have all his gold and silver and half of his kingdom if his daughter were spared; the people refused. The daughter was sent out to the lake, decked out as a bride, to be fed to the dragon.

Saint George by chance rode past the lake. The princess, trembling, sought to send him away, but George vowed to remain.

The dragon reared out of the lake while they were conversing. Saint George fortified himself with the Sign of the Cross,[3] charged it on horseback with his lance and gave it a grievous wound. Then he called to the princess to throw him her girdle and put it around the dragon's neck. When she did so, the dragon followed the girl like a meek beast on a leash. She and Saint George led the dragon back to the city of Silene, where it terrified the people at its approach. But Saint George called out to them, saying that if they consented to become Christians and be baptised, he would slay the dragon before them.

The king and the people of Silene converted to Christianity, George slew the dragon, and the body was carted out of the city on four ox-carts. "Fifteen thousand men baptized, without women and children." On the site where the dragon died, the king built a church to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint George, and from its altar a spring arose whose waters cured all disease.[4]

Traditionally, the sword[5] with which St. George slew the dragon was called Ascalon, a name recalling the city of Ashkelon, Israel. From this tradition, the name Ascalon was used by Winston Churchill for his personal aircraft during World War II (records at Bletchley Park), since St. George is the Patron Saint of England.

THE earliest known template for the image of St George slaying the dragon has been found in Syria, archaeologists believe. Keep Reading Here
