Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Pakistanis "You Must Not Have Heard About Me"

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, "I am more than willing to hear every complaint about the United States," Clinton said, ""but this is a two way street.

I believe her, not only is she more than willing to hear every complaint about the United States. She is willing for us to take responsibility for every thing that goes wrong around the world, including Pakistan.

I was heartened to read this,

Clinton puzzled at Pakistan failure to find al Qaeda

LAHORE, Pakistan (Reuters)

U.S. Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton's said on Thursday it was "hard to believe" that no one in Pakistan's government knew where al Qaeda leaders were hiding, striking a new tone on a trip where Washington's credibility has come under attack. (Pakistanis be happy, she didn't say, It would require a willing suspension of disbelief.)

Scores of al Qaeda leaders and their operatives, including Osama bin Laden, are believed to be in hiding in the rugged border territory that divides Pakistan and Afghanistan, but both countries routinely accuse the other of being the main sanctuary

"I find it hard to believe that nobody in your government knows where they are and couldn't get them if they really wanted to," she told a group of newspaper editors during a meeting in Lahore. Keep Reading HERE.

How much money - aid in dollars has the U.S. given to Pakistan? It's almost like it's to their advantage to have a terrorism problem so we keep pouring money into their 3rd world excuse for a country. If I was a skeptical person, I might even think they are using the Taliban, and Al Qeada as a cottage industry, there seems to be a big payoff for the the Pakistani Government $$$$.....Pakistan, we need more money to fight the threat but not enough to eradicate the threat because then the Americans will leave, and take their money with them. Corruption and Fraud is big in that part of the world, a way of life in fact, and it has been that way even before the United States of America existed.

Secretary of State Mrs Clinton, put it as straight and bluntly as she could to the Pakistanis, Don't play me, you don't know about me, and that's the fact jack. Time to take the gloves off Hill, I don't care if you apologize afterward just show them we expect more bang for our bucks.

Imus Rants About His Fox Critics; Calls Obama 'A Whiny Little Titty Baby and a Girly Man'

Photo of Jeff Poor.

Ever since long-time radio talker Don Imus inked a deal with the Fox Business Network to simulcast his morning radio program, he said he has been getting pushback from several acquaintances.

And as he explained and showed on his Oct. 28 program, he's not particularly pleased with the reaction about his deal with Fox News.

"I get this email and the e-mail says, ‘Sorry to see you've sold out to Fox Business, or whatever. But I am not surprised you sold out to Fox Business, disappointed.' Could you explain to me exactly what does that mean? When you walk in the door here, Roger Ailes or Neil Cavuto or what's the other fat guy's name? Kevin McGee? Not the other fat guy, that was unfortunate."Keep Reading HERE.

Life, The Basics - Keep Moving

There are some simple basic principles to Life. If you are not moving toward something, you are moving away from it. If you are standing still, you're making yourself too easy a target.

Pedestrians, you know who you are. You are bipedal by design not by accident. You are the ones on the corner, waiting on the traffic light to change, pushing a button, that isn't connected to anything. It was put there, to give you the illusion of control, and something to do while you wait for the light to change GRIN.

There are also a type of people, who are called pedestrian thinkers. Tomorrow Imus's guest are Bill Maher and Christopher Hitchens "Heathen Tuesday" I thought, I would go check out what's going on over at Darwin Central, corrupting the worlds youth since 1859. This was in the comment section
, Avoid pedestrian thinking. Think equestrian. And leave a lot of horseshit in your wake.

If at least Christopher Hitchens, doesn't bring up pedestrian thinking on the part of the religious, the true believers. I am going to be very disappointed, it is a U.S. vs U.K. thing. Pedestrian in the U.K. means slow or common, ordinary. In America it means 5 points on your drivers license if you hit one ;)

Friedrich Nietzsche said, All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking. He also said God is Dead. What did Nietzsche mean, we killed him? I was raised Roman Catholic, I can tell you about the rituals. Christianity like other religions has movements and waves - highs and lows. There was a time when Mass was only recited in Latin. Just ask Mel Gibson. What do I think Nietzsche meant, he meant that the God of Abraham, had been displaced by Jesus Christ, in our consciousness in our psyches. God is Dead, we replaced him, we killed him.

As far as Hitchens and Maher are concerned, what are they atheist missionaries? If there is no God, what do they care what other people believe?

I do believe in the (D)ivine, I do believe, we are more than what we consume for sustenance . "You Are What You Eat"

"This is the forest primeval" Longfellow's Epic Evangeline

Acadia National Forest from Sebastiaan Knoops on Vimeo.

Evangeline
A Tale of Arcadie

Poet's Corner - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. (My Favorite Poet)

Where is the thatch-roofed village, the home of Acadian farmers --
Men whose lives glided on like rivers that water the woodlands,
Darkened by shadows of earth, but reflecting an image of heaven?

Longfellow's"Song of Hiawatha" provided the name for the Hiawatha National Forest, which touches the shores of Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Lake Huron.

By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees,

Rose the firs with cones upon them;
Bright before it beat the water,
Beat the clear and sunny water,
Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water.

Black Hawk Down - Somalia, 3rd October 1993

This is one of my favorite books. Black Hawk Down, was made into a movie which is also one of my favorites. The author Mark Bowden, works for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Some of the best parts of the book is at the beginning, when they are waiting for the go ahead, they are waiting for the code word.

pray for us sinners, now at the hour of our death, amen.

The 3rd of October 1993
There were twenty false alarms for every real mission. Waiting for the code word for launch which today was "Irene" they were a formidable sum of men and machines.

Black Hawk, Super Six Four, heard over the intercom the soft voice of the pilot, Chief Warrant Officer Mike Durant, clearly pleased. Durant announced "Fuckin Irene" And the armada launched, lifting off from the shabby airport by the sea into an embracing blue vista of sky and Indian Ocean. They eased out across a littered strip of white sand and moved low and fast over running breakers that formed faint crest parallel with the shore. In close formation they banked and flew down the coastline southwest. From each bird the booted legs of the eager soldiers dangled from the benches of the open doors.

One by one, the various units would repeat "Lucy" the code word for the assault to begin: Romeo Six Four, Colonel Harrell; Kilo Six Four, Captain Scott Miller, the Delta assault-force commander; Barber Five One, veteran pilot Chief Warrant Randy Jones in the lead AH-6 gunship ; Juliet Six Four, Captain Mike Steele, The Ranger commander aboard Durant's bird; Uniform Six Four, Lieutenant Colonel Danny McKnight, who was commanding the ground convoy poised to take them all out. The convoy had rolled up to the spot several blocks away.

*This is Romeo Six Four, to all elements. Lucy, Lucy.
*This is Kilo Six Four, roger Lucy.
*This is Barber Five One, roger Lucy.
*Juliet Six Four, roger Lucy.
* This is Uniform Six Four, roger Lucy.
*ALL ELEMENTS LUCY.

Jamey Johnson, Stars In Alabama -Take This Tune.

Cowboy lyrics dot com, Jamey Johnson, Stars In Alabama.

I said, “Mama don’t you worry, I’m getting by just fine out on the road.
Yeah, tonight we played in Knoxville and tomorrow night its back to Music Row.
No, I don’t know when I’m coming home, Montgomery seems so very far away”.
She said, “Boy, it wouldn’t kill you none to look out past the bright lights on that stage.

Cause God put stars in Alabama. You just can’t find in Tennessee.
The same ones are waiting on you. That taught you how to dream.
I know there’s big names up in Nashville. And you’ll be one before too long.
But God put stars in Alabama. To help you find your way back home.”

If it wasn't for Fox News, and Talk Radio, this "current" Administration, would be such a huge snooze fest, and they know it. White House, send Roger Ailes a Fruit Basket. And for God's Sake Anita Dunn, pick up the Damn phone!! Don't you get how "Performance Art" works? Apparently not. Do they really think Glenn Beck is going to stop, when they have handed him all of this target rich material? Who quotes Mao? No really, think about all the choices, and Dunn picks the Guinness World record holder of mass murders - with a dress code fixation. Glenn Beck was using carrier pigeons on yesterday program. They know it's a only a matter of time before he brings in Western Union, and starts telegraphing the White House....Than there is Morse Code, and the Navy has a flag system....American Indian smoke signals, African Tribal Drums....Oh yes Mr President, the Natives are restless. I love Glenn Beck. I was on my way to the store yesterday, and he came on, and I had to sit down and watch. You just can't look away.

Lawrence Charles Crain - Rest In Peace

Lawrence Charles Crain, 71, of Burnet County, passed away at his home October 19, 2009, from complications of cancer and a stroke.

Lawrence was born April 12, 1938, in Corpus Christi. He was the third of six children born to Blanche Evelyn Rucker and James Thomas Crain. His formative years were spent in Texas, New Mexico, and California. The family then moved to Bremerton, Washington, in 1955, where Lawrence enlisted in the United States Air Force. Returning from Okinawa to the United States in December, 1957, Lawrence visited his family in Burnet where he met his future wife, Janet Elinor Lewis. The couple wed April 18, 1958 and began their married life in Altus, Oklahoma. When Lawrence was discharged, he returned to Burnet, until he was hired to work as a civil servant at the Altus AFB. He continued his employment with the government at Ft. Hood for five years. Moving to Austin, Lawrence completed the United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ and Joiners’ apprenticeship program, earning his master carpenter’s certification in 1971. He worked on various projects in the Austin area, including the LBJ Library and Texas Memorial Stadium. He continued working in the Austin-Highland Lakes area, until he returned to employment at Fort Hood in 1981, from which he retired in 1998.

Lawrence enjoyed fishing and passing on the skills to his children and grandchildren. Moving to north Burnet County in 1985, he built a house for his family, and enjoyed hunting and pursuing his passion for antique car restoration. In recent years, he spent time online working on genealogical research and relished the small discoveries that revealed pieces of his family’s past.

"All my prayers to Janet, and her family. May God give you all comfort in your memories, and know you have many thinking of you at this sad time."

A little-known U.S. Customs and Border Protection patrol unit, comprised of Native American trackers who are based on the Tohono-O'odham Reservation, in southern Arizona, is about to get the big-screen Hollywood treatment.

The unit is known as the Shadow Wolves, and the film based on their exploits, Call of the Shadow Wolves, is in pre-production, with an October start date scheduled on location in Arizona.

Documentary filmmaker Brian Kosisky is set to direct the story of "their work with a CIA agent to prevent an impending terrorist attack," according to a statement from his production company, Kos Films.

As the company statement puts it, the Shadow Wolves are "considered the best trackers of human beings in the world" and have "come face-to-face and captured some of the most notorious drug smugglers to enter the U.S."

"Most people know very little about The Shadow Wolves," said Kosisky in the statement. "This is a tremendous opportunity for a storyteller to create a present-day Western where Native Americans are the heroes." KEEP READING HERE.

8 + 8 = Octostupidity & George Stephanopoulus, Runs The White House Gauntlet

Octopus of Death
Photo from the Domain Of Death3, coasters, carnivals, and more.....

What is it about Jon Gosselin that attracts the super fertile types to him? He is divorcing his wife who he has 8 children with. Now Octomom wants a piece of him? Only thing stopping her is that she doesn't think a single mom of 8 "young" children should date. She is leaving the option open for when the kids are older. Come on Jon...you could get another deal for a Reality TV show....I'm sure there will be more weird super fertile women, for your franchise, when your time runs out with Octomom
.

Tony Powell "Imus In The Morning" commented this morning, on this very topic. I really wish I could link to his segment it was really funny.

White House Urges Other Networks to Disregard Fox News

Take This Tune, Top Of The Ocean, Tacoma Washington 1946 -1977

The "Top of the Ocean" was a restaurant and dance hall shaped like an ocean liner and built on piers on Tacoma's waterfront. It was opened in 1946 and was considered Tacoma's top night spot for years. In 1977 it was burnt to the ground - water? (Down in the Depths) in a string of arson considered to be connected to organized crime.

The Louis Grenier Orchestra provided live dance music for dancing and underwater floodlights lit the surrounding water, producing an eerie green. Diners could either arrive by car, or by water.

This replica was sculpted and placed at the site of the restaurant, now a public dock on Tacoma's waterfront, in October 2007.

I remember it was a personal treat to go to the "Top Of The Ocean"

Trying to trigger my eldest sister's memory: You were babysitting, and you saved up your babysitting money, and you bought at least Yenny, and I new clothes. Including white Go Go boots, Amee went too. I have the memory of staying the night at the house of the people you were babysitting for, and you even gave me a manicure the night before - for the big night out. I remember we went to a restaurant first. I thought was Italian, Yenny says she remembers she ate baked chicken. I remember having a Shirley Temple, that would have been a big deal to me when I was little. Then we went to a movie. I thought it was a Rock Hudson or an Elvis movie but that might have been a different time. Am I confusing two movie going times together? Yenny said, we went to see Dr Zhivago, and I fell asleep before the intermission. Then you took us all to the Top Of The Ocean. I was hoping you remembered because I would love to blog about it. Yenny told me the restaurant burned down, 1977, and they never rebuilt it. That was a very well known landmark in Tacoma. We went there in the 60s if you remembered the year you were babysitting for that couple, it would narrow down when we went.

My Sister- The first restaurant we went to in downtown Tacoma was Italian indeed, even if Yenny, may have ordered chicken. It had a very Italian name, too, like Vinces or Manitellis or something. I am not sure where I was staying, I believe we all must have stayed at Aunt Marge's and Uncle Mike's and that I was visiting them. I remember walking downtown to the Italian restaurant and the sort of slightly hilly sidewalks. You did have a Shirley Temple, and as you remember these things I remember them, too. I know we went to a movie, also, but don't remember which one--and I am not sure a movie was included in this same outing that included Top of the Ocean. I was in high school, my senior year, so I was 18 or 19 years old..... ummm, sounds like 67 or so. And I went some years later to the Top of the Ocean, too, on a double date of sorts. I think we went there again, anyway, because I remember going down to the docks in Tacoma and eating at a restaurant, and I would have wanted to go back there again.

Nice to remember some of these things I hadn't thought of for years.

Want To Play "Take This Tune"

BIG BAND ERA, IN THE MOOD 1940s

Sunday Morning Ponderings - I Have These Questions

I have questions that the media, new or old, don't ever seem to answer.

Why hasn't Tony Rezko been sentenced?

When does Governor Rod Blagojevich's trial start?

What part does the Supreme Court have - in the so called health insurance reform bill?

If the first stimulus bill passed, and didn't work, why would our government pass a second?

Why is the Department of Homeland Security, making it more difficult for law enforcement in Arizona, to protect their citizens, and by extension the rest of Americans. Do people in our government realize, once people cross over into our Sovereign Country, that there are no border checks at state level? People entering illegally, can move about inside the contiguous United States at will.

ACORN is an umbrella group, for many more smaller organizations, has anyone checked to see if TAXPAYER MONEY is still following into those organizations?

What is the level of corruption today in Washington D.C.? Has anyone done an audit? When I use the term corruption, I don't mean politicians or elected officials personal lives - scandals. Unless TAX PAYER MONEY was involved.

To what extent are foreign countries meddling in our domestic politics? Now and in the recent past.

What if anything is being done to shore up the value of the dollar?

What if anything is being done about job creation in the private sector?

Why can't a viable 3rd Party be formed in this Country? Why should Independents like myself, be left with only two bad choices?

Why do I have to get most of the answers to my questions answered from - The Daily Show or South Park on Comedy Central?

Phoenix, Arizona - Kidnapping Capitol Of The U.S.A.

Ariz. sheriff launches immigration sweep
By JACQUES BILLEAUD (AP) – 15 hours ago, 17 Oct 2009

Sheriff Joe Arpaio,

It doesn't bother me, because we are going to do the same thing," said Arpaio, whose deputies had arrested 16 people by Friday evening on unspecified charges. "I am the elected sheriff. I don't take orders from the federal government."

The officers were participating in a federal program that grants a limited number of local police departments special powers to make immigration arrests and speed up deportation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement stripped Arpaio of his power to let 100 deputies make federal immigration arrests, but renewed another agreement that allows 60 jails officers to determine the immigration status of people in jail.

The sheriff's sweeps in some heavily Latino areas of metro Phoenix have drawn criticism that Arpaio's deputies racially profile people. Arpaio said people pulled over in the sweeps were approached because deputies had probable cause to believe they had committed crimes and that it was only afterward that deputies found many of them were illegal immigrants.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Arpaio's office over allegations of discrimination and unconstitutional searches and seizures. Keep Reading HERE.

Joe Scarborough is under intense pressure to perform as he goes head-to-head with old foe Don Imus.

MSNBC chiefs have been nervously watching the ratings since Imus' show on the Fox Business Network started airing at the same time as Scarborough's "Morning Joe" earlier this month.

Scarborough was hit with a further blow this week when his radio show was dropped by DC radio station WMAL.

A source told Page Six: "Those higher up at MSNBC are unnerved by Imus' move to Fox Business Network and fear his show could push Scarborough down. They're putting a lot of pressure on Joe to keep the ratings up. To make things worse, there are multiple scores to be settled."Keep Reading HERE.

Haugan, Montana - World Famous 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar

Roadside America.com Haugan,Mt Famous 10,000 Silver Dollar Bar.

Well-promoted by signs in the region. Started in 1952 by Gerry and Marie Lincoln. Largest collection of its kind. The silver dollars have been left by people from all over the world. 2,500 are embedded in the bar top, and the remainder are mounted about the room, on the ceiling, walls, etc.

When I was a kid, we would go on trips, and we must have stopped at every roadside amusement, historic marker, roadside zoo, petrified forest, the Columbia river basin. I have a memory of going on a stage coach ride with my Mom, and friends as a child it was bumpy, and the stage coach got attacked for effect. There is a place in Montana, where you can pan for gold, another where you can rock hunt for semi precious stones. My older sister is a rock hound. I still remember the year, our brother gave her a latrine shovel, and a pick axe for Christmas, she was so happy. I have been to ghost towns, Garnet, Virginia City, Butte ;) I took a trolley tour of Butte, Montana. I saw the Copper King's mansion. I passed by the home that the IRS repo'd from Evil Knievel. I have been up close to the Pit, Banack Gold to Ghost. I never did make it to Banack first capitol of Montana.

We stopped at a few Silver Dollar Bars, when we were kids, our Dad had our names put on silver dollars, and inlaid.

Baucus Bill Proposal "Feed Me Seymour"

Visit 10,000 Pennies blog, Political Math. Balancing the Obama Budget With a Mandatory Gorilla. What it means to add another mandatory - entitlement program to the budget deficit, what it really means.

The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over, and over again, and expecting a different outcome. We are going to need a lot of bananas for our Banana Republic.

UPDATE: Who Is Going To Pay For Baucus Bill?

Obamacare Tax Frays Middle-Class Vow.

By Kevin A. Hassett |
87 Percent

The report projected that the excise tax would raise about $52 billion in 2019. Of that, about $8.9 billion would come from taxpayers with incomes of less than $50,000; about $19.4 billion from taxpayers with incomes between $50,000 and $100,000; and about $17.4 billion from taxpayers with incomes between $100,000 and $200,000.

Add those up, and you see that about 87 percent of the revenue in the original Baucus proposal to finance Obamacare would come from individuals with incomes of less than $200,000.

Baucus and the Senate committee have since upped the proposed tax to 40 percent, and the trigger thresholds to $9,850 and $26,000, tweaks that shouldn't change the basic thrust of the story. The Democrats' plan is a moving target--and given who will pay the tab, that is probably on purpose.

The remarkable thing is that this revenue comes from low- and middle-income people who already have insurance. Many members of organized labor have these "gold-plated" plans. And they would be worse off, not better, because of Obamacare. KEEP READING HERE

Over & Over Again, Nature Points Out The Folly Of Man

This is a Harbor Seal, you can find them all over the Puget Sound Area.
Northwest sea lions teach humans the folly of fighting Mother Nature,
Seattle Times, by Craig Welch, Originally published September 7, 2008 at 12:00 A.M.

Sea lions chase after salmon entering fish ladders at the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. The dam has become the latest battleground in an ongoing war of wits between humans and hungry sea lions pushing farther upriver in search of food.

A Fish Ladder to a Harbor Seal, is like us going to the drive through at McDonalds for fast food. If you don't have to work, exert much effort for your food why would you?

What do Harbor Seals, and Afghan Poppy Farmers have in common?

SHIFT IN AFGHAN ANTIDRUG POLICY DRAWS MIXED REACTION Abubaker Saddique 7/11/09 A EurasiaNet Partner Post from RFE/RL

Richard Holbrooke, the U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, announced the policy shift during a June 27 G-8 conference on stabilizing Afghanistan.

"The Western policies against the opium crop, the poppy crop, have been a failure," Holbrooke said. "They did not result in any damage to the Taliban, but they put farmers out of work and they alienated people, and drove people into the arms of the Taliban.

Holbrooke continued: "So I need to stress this: The poppy farmer is not our enemy, the Taliban are, and to destroy the crops is not an effective policy. And the U.S. has wasted hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars on this program and that is going to end. We are not going to support crop eradication." Keep reading EURASIA INSIGHT.

If you were a Poppy Farmer, and you could make more money for less effort, growing poppies would you? This does remind me of the transplantation of Kudzu into the U.S. from Japan, because someone found the plant attractive, but the geography - climate had a different effect on how Kudzu grew in the U.S., but Kudzu eradication is another post ;) We need to be careful about what we are importing, and exporting, our culture, our morals, and our problem solving skills. Usually when we solve one problem, we end up creating another. Over And Over Again, Nature Points Out The Folly Of Man.

Mr Holbrooke's argument, is to target - get rid of the Drug Traffickers. First lets look at the Nature Cycle. If the Poppy Farms are the Host, and the Drug Traffickers are the Parasite, say a "tick" growing bloated on the Poppy Farmer's crop, wouldn't you want to create the situation in nature to repel the tick aka Drug Trafficker? The Poppy Crop does not contribute any sustenance to the Afghan population, it isn't a food crop. We recognize that the Taliban, and Al Qaeda are getting their funding for their terror campaigns, from the poppy crop. It stands to reason this is the cycle we need to disrupt. How do you rid yourselves of the parasite without killing the host?

I have zero interest in nation building in Afghanistan. They have zero interest in changing their culture to mirror a western culture, like the U.S.A. What are the best results we could expect? A nation that doesn't threaten us or it's neighbors. I don't see how that is possible with a thriving poppy crop, and drug trade. We might have to go back to the basics of 8 years ago, when we responded to 9/11. The C.I.A. brought in suit cases of money with them into Afghanistan. We bribed the tribal leaders. In Eastern Asia a bribe is defined as a tribute (They Don't Think Like Westerners) we need to stop applying our western morals to their culture. We bombed from the air, I don't know how many jungle gyms were destroyed, and we dropped MREs. Bribes, Bombs, and Food.

It's obvious we're not in Kansas anymore.

John McCain "Let's let a thousand flowers bloom"

I like this quote from John McCain in this CNN interview. John McCain weighs in on the obvious opposition of Steve Schmidt to Sarah Palin's political career. The Maverick tells John King, "Let's let a thousand flowers bloom."

Adam & Eve Sans Utero

adam and eve in the garden of eden Pictures, Images and Photos

"God created man [Heb., Adam] in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." According to this account, Adam was absolutely the first man whom God created. He was formed out of the dust of the earth (hence his name, which means "red earth"), and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and gave him dominion over all the lower creatures (Gen. 1:26; 2:7).

Adam's mate, Eve, was either created from his rib (Gen. 2.21-22), or created at the same time (Gen. 1.27) as Adam, depending on which part of Genesis is read and how it is interpreted. More Here at Knowledgerush.

Adam & Eve were not born in Utero, so why in all the art depicting them, do they have navels? The reason we all have belly buttons, we are born in Utero.

From Nirvana - In Utero "Very Ape" Lyrics

Very Ape :
I am buried up to my neck in
Contradictionary lies
I take pride as the kind of illiterature
I'm very ape and very nice

If you ever need anything please don't hesitate
to ask someone else first
I'm too busy acting like I'm not naive.
I've seen it all I was here first

Out of the ground
Into the sky
Out of the sky
Into the dirt

Who Made Who?

Don't Answer Uncle Screwtape's Emails

Lately, when contemplating our country's many challenges. I find myself being reminded of books I read as a child one "The Screwtape Letters" this one is timeless. Uncle Screwtape has upgraded his correspondence. Who can blame him new media is so much more efficient. The Screwtape Emails.

Wikipedia The Screwtape Letters is a Christian apologetics novel written in epistolary style by C. S. Lewis, first published in book form in 1942. The story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior demon, Screwtape, to his nephew, a junior tempter named Wormwood, so as to advise him on methods of securing the damnation of a British man, known only as "the Patient."

Screwtape (along with his trusted scribe Toadpipe) holds an administrative post in the bureaucracy ("Lowerarchy") of Hell, and acts more as a mentor than a supervisor to Wormwood, the inexperienced tempter; almost every letter ends with the signature, "Your affectionate uncle, Screwtape." In the body of the thirty-one letters which make up the book, Screwtape gives Wormwood detailed advice on various methods of undermining faith and promoting sin in his Patient, interspersed with observations on human nature and Christian doctrine.

In The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis provides a series of lessons in the importance of taking a deliberate role in living out Christian faith by portraying a typical human life, with all its temptations and failings, as seen from the demon/devil's viewpoint. Wormwood and Screwtape live in a peculiarly morally reversed world, where individual benefit and greed are seen as the greatest good, and neither demon is capable of comprehending or acknowledging true human virtue when he sees it.

I still have my copy of The Screwtape Letters. Google Books has it online HERE. The Patient indeed, that's a timely label, given the current health insurance reform debate.

The other book is Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift. George Orwell had stated Gulliver’s Travels was one of six indispensable books of world literature.

One of the themes of Gulliver's Travels, whether men are inherently corrupt or whether they become corrupted.

Lilliputians fought a major war over which end of the egg to crack open first–the large or small end....One of the satirical conflicts in the book is between two religious sects of Lilliputians, some of whom who prefer cracking open their soft-boiled eggs from the little end, while others prefer the big end.
