Calvert News, Maryland Celebrated Founding, March 25, 2009

This is a portrait of Leonard Calvert, the second son of Sir George Calvert, 1st Lord Baltimore. Leonard Calvert was the first Provincial Governor of Maryland. I descend from his son William Calvert, born circa 1642 in England, husband of Elizabeth Stone, and daughter of Governor William Stone. I am a member of the Calvert Family Genealogy Group. This portrait of Leonard Calvert is currently for sale on eBay, the asking price a mere $14,500 American Dollars. The artist Van Oost I or II?

The State of Maryland just observed an Anniversary. Leonard Calvert was the Leader of the Covenant, and the Capt of the Ark & Dove. Leonard Calvert's brother Cecil Calvert 2nd Lord Baltimore, the proprietor of the Province of Maryland. Leonard Calvert acting as his brother's agent, did his brother Cecil's heavy lifting. Leonard's brother never visited his colony.
In early March 1634, the Ark and Dove reached the Chesapeake Bay, bound for the Potomac River to Maryland. The Ark and Dove arrived at Maryland on March 3, 1634. On March 25, they came ashore to celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation, that today we celebrate as Maryland Day.

The State of Maryland uses the Calvert coat of arms, and the Calvert family motto, Womanly Words and Manly Deeds. The State of Maryland changed the motto to, Feminine Words and Masculine Deeds...who knows why?

Recently Senator James Webb (D) Virginia, proposed and had legislation pass, for the study of the preservation for the Historic Northern Neck of Virginia. Early settlers of the Northern Neck of Virginia, included Calverts, and their allied kinfolk. One of George Washington's friends was Benedict Swingate Calvert of the Mt Airy Calverts, his daughter Eleanor Calvert married second David Stuart, and first John Parke Custis, George Washington's stepson. George Washington's Papers are available online at the Library of Congress. My ancestor Hezekiah Fairfax, 8th Great Grandfather. I descend through his eldest son William "Billy" Fairfax, who was born 1779 in Prince William Co.,Va., (Northern Neck of Virginia) Hezekiah Fairfax, worked for George Washington, (Ferry Plantation, this is the ferry that was used to ferry people and cargo, from the Virginia side to Marshall Hall on the Maryland side of the Potomac) Hezekiah's grand daughter Mary Fairfax born circa 1810, Prince William Co.,Va. married Simpson Cooksey born 1810 Fairfax Co.,Va., grandson of Lydia Calvert born 1750 Prince William Co.,Va. The preservation of the Historical Northern Neck of Virginia is of import to me, and all who can trace their families back to "Washington Country" so called because of the size of the footprint George Washington left on the Northern Neck of Virginia.

The first Lord Baltimore Sir George Calvert's first settlement was called "Avalon" near Newfoundland. Olde English Stomping Grounds of Sir George Calvert, Kiplin Hall.

I Fav Senator James Webb, Proposes A Prisoner Swap

Senator James Webb (D) Virginia, writing for Parade Magazine.

It's time to change the law

By Senator Jim Webb
Publication Date 3/29/2009

We need to fix the system. Doing so will require a major nationwide recalculation of who goes to prison and for how long and of how we address the long-term consequences of incarceration.

Senator James Webb proposes, instead of incarcerating nonviolent criminal offenders, that we focus on violent criminal offenders. This sounds reasonable to me, this article states, it cost the American Tax Payer 68 Billion a year to warehouse all the people we have in prison currently. The American Taxpayer sure could use a break. Senator Webb doesn't mention the Literacy Rate among the same incarcerated population. How many came from Single Parent homes? I want to know more, like who has invested the most money in American Prisons? Who is making money from American Prisons? I am not pointing a finger. I would like to know more, now that Senator Webb has brought up the subject. These are interesting statistics and they are having a stunning effect, on our American Society as a whole.

Justice statistics also show that 47.5% of all the drug arrests in our country in 2007 were for marijuana offenses. Additionally, nearly 60% of the people in state prisons serving time for a drug offense had no history of violence or of any significant selling activity. Indeed, four out of five drug arrests were for possession of illegal substances, while only one out of five was for sales. Three-quarters of the drug offenders in our state prisons were there for nonviolent or purely drug offenses. And although experts have found little statistical difference among racial groups regarding actual drug use, African-Americans--who make up about 12% of the total U.S. population--accounted for 37% of those arrested on drug charges, 59% of those convicted, and 74% of all drug offenders sentenced to prison.

Against this backdrop of chaos and mismanagement, a dangerous form of organized and sometimes deadly gang activity has infiltrated America's towns and cities. It comes largely from our country's southern border, and much of the criminal activity centers around the movement of illegal drugs. The weapons and tactics involved are of the highest order.

The Mexican drug cartels, whose combined profits are estimated at $25 billion a year, are known to employ many elite former soldiers who were trained in some of America's most sophisticated military programs. Their brutal tactics took the lives of more than 6000 Mexicans last year alone, and the bloodshed has been spilling over the border into our own neighborhoods at a rapid pace. One terrible result is that Phoenix, Ariz., has become the kidnapping capital of the United States, with more than 370 cases in 2008. That is more incidents than in any other city in the world outside of Mexico City. Keep Reading Here.

TGIF- KaRN EvIL "Welcome To The Show That Never Ends"

Week in Review, Carnival Games & Carny Tricks? What is going on at our Capitol Washington D.C.?

Carny vocabulary,
Though these terms are traditionally part of carnival cant, a secret language, it is an ever-changing form of communication, and in large part designed to be impossible to understand by an outsider. Thus, as words are assimilated into the culture at large, they lose their function and are replaced by other more obscure or insular terms. Most carnies no longer talk this way. However, many owners/operators and "old-timers" still use some of the classic terms. Jargon that refers to money or drugs is still frequently used. Keep reading here for a list of Carny Jargon.
UPDATE: Carnys call them Shills.

Should we start with the Mistress Of Foggy Bottom? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commenting on Mexican Drug Cartel Violence "Our insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade. Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians," Clinton said. Keep Reading Here.

I see it's American's fault, that drug dealers are pushing drugs across our border. It's the American drug addicts fault. It can't be our American Lawmakers Fault, that they have FAILED to secure our borders and ports. Lets explore how do Americans become drug addicts, not that America is the only Country with drug problems. First Americans would need to be exposed to the drugs from Mexico, who is inside our country selling drugs to Americans here's a hint, Mexican Drug Gangs are operating in at least 230 American Cities as far north as Alaska. How did they get in our Country? Well our borders and ports are not secure, why nearly 8 years after 9/11 haven't our Ports and Borders been secured? Answer: "American Leaders & Lawmakers" so in a sense the Mistress of Foggy Bottom is correct, Americans are responsible. There are a host of reasons why our border with Mexico has not been secured, including our own Chamber of Commerce lobbying for open access. LaRaza and Open Border advocates, they will use any device they can find to keep the border from being secured, they don't care how many People lose their lives.

In December of 2006, Mexico's new President Felipe Calderón declared war on the drug cartels, reversing earlier government passiveness. Since then, the government has made some gains, but at a heavy price - gun battles, assasinations, kidnappings, fights between rival cartels, and reprisals have resulted in over 9,500 deaths since December 2006 - over 5,300 killed last year alone.

Remember Bushisms? They have been replaced with Obamateurism

""Nearly four weeks ago, President Obama declared that US combat operations would end in Iraq by August 2010. Despite Obama’s pledge, new evidence has emerged that the US plans to keep combat brigades in Iraq, but they will operate under a different name. Investigative reporter Gareth Porter of Inter Press Service reveals some of the brigade combat teams currently in Iraq will stay beyond August 2010 and will be renamed so-called “advisory and assistance brigades.""

So we won't call them Combat brigades we will call them advisory and assistance brigades...here is the problem, anyone old enough to remember or has been taught about the Vietnam War, the Vietnam Conflict started with American "Advisers" keyboard jockey.

How about this for Carny Jargon.....I mean Political Speak.

The White House orders a name change in the War On Terror Posted by the912project on March 25, 2009 · Bad Loans are now called LEGACY ASSETS, the War on Terror is the OVERSEAS CONTINGENCY OPERATION. Keep Reading Here.

This makes sense because there are No More Enemy Combatants, They are displaced battle field challenged.....oh I give up. AG Eric (America Is A Nation Of Cowards) Holder, may prefer calling them Clients now that they are no longer Enemy Combatants, he wants to release some of them into Our Country. One small question for our AG Holder, how many Americans have died on the Battlefield fighting these NON Enemy Combatants? Isn't this an INSULT to Americans, and their loved ones, who sacrificed their lives, and limbs for our safety, fighting the War On Terror, and these Non Enemy Combatants?

Border Patrol Wants To Deflower Mexican Border

This is what it looks like right now, smugglers hide in the cane and tall grasses. There is a proposal to Defoliate the Mexican Border, starting with a 1.1 test mile. At this time there has been an injunction filed. The argument is the herbicide if sprayed by helicopter would not be safe to humans and animals. The proposal also stated they could cut the cane and paint the stump with herbicide or they could remove the cane by root and not use a herbicide at all. The non use of an herbicide met with the argument of erosion no matter what is proposed there will be arguments against the U.S. from securing our border this is almost eight years since 9/11. This is a Map of the area being discussed near Laredo and Nueva Laredo that has seen a great deal of violence.

Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton

Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan by Doug Stanton, available May 5, 2009.

Simon & Shuster, Description:

From the New York Times-bestselling author of In Harm's Way comes a true-life story of American soldiers overcoming great odds to achieve a stunning military victory.

Horse Soldiers is the dramatic account of a small band of Special Forces soldiers who secretly entered Afghanistan following 9/11 and rode to war on horses against the Taliban. Outnumbered forty to one, they pursued the enemy across mountainous terrain and, after a series of intense battles, captured the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, which was strategically essential if they were to defeat the Taliban.

The bone-weary American soldiers were welcomed as liberators, and overjoyed Afghans thronged the streets. Then the action took a wholly unexpected turn. During a surrender of six hundred Taliban troops, the Horse Soldiers were ambushed. Dangerously outnumbered, they fought for their lives in the city's immense fortress, Qala-i-Janghi, or the House of War. At risk were the military gains of the entire campaign: if the soldiers perished or were captured, the effort to defeat the Taliban might be doomed. Keep Reading Here.

When this happened, I was watching it being reported in the news. I was captivated by the response of our Military right after 9/11. I was fascinated, and impressed. I am looking forward to the release of this book. I do intend on buying a copy. I wish I could get it autographed by the men who rode into American and Afghan history. Never bet against American Military's Ingenuity, they adapt, improvise and innovate. AG Eric Holder saying some of the NON Enemy Combatants might be released into America. This is a book about the Men who fought those NON Enemy Combatants

Someone needs to send our AG Eric Holder a copy, given his recent statements about Americans being cowards, and the plans to close Gitmo. Where would those non enemy combatants be relocated?
Some of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners could be released into the United States while others could be put on trial in the American court system, Attorney General Eric Holder said on Wednesday. Keep Reading Here.

Don Imus hits nerve with shoot ‘joke’
By Jessica Heslam
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 -

Radio shock jock Don Imus insisted he was joking when he threatened to shoot WTKK host Jay Severin during yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day broadcast in Boston - but Severin’s agent doesn’t buy it and called the I-Man’s explanation “pathetic.”

The early morning showdown at the Wilbur Theatre - where the 68-year-old Imus told Severin to get off the stage or he’d shoot him - sparked a war of words yesterday between the two camps.

“I heard that Imus’ spokesman tried to characterize this as an ‘obvious joke’ on Imus’ part. That’s pathetic,” said Severin’s agent and attorney, George Tobia. Keep Reading Here.

Note to Imus, it isn't a Gun, it is a Side Arm. Imus had to have learned this in the Marines. "This Is My Weapon, This Is My Gun, This One Is For Shooting, And This One Is For Fun" I guess Jay "Steve" Severin wasn't having fun? Well Imus is fond of telling people "I'm Not Happy, Till You're Not Happy" Looks like Imus still has lead in his Pencil GRIN.

TGIF "Circus Life" Chinese Fire Drill

Week in Review,

World News
Commentary: China: The next big enemy? The domestic politics of the new Sinophobia
Justin Raimondo Antiwar.com USA March 11, 2009

Those Chinese sailors who "harassed" a U.S. military vessel lingering perilously close to a Chinese base on Hainan Island, in the South China Sea, reportedly stripped down to their underwear when our sailors turned water hoses on them. Maybe the shower facilities on Chinese fishing vessels – it was fishing trawlers, not military gunboats, that met the Americans on China's doorstep – are insufficient, or maybe the Chinese were mooning us. I'm inclined to think the latter. In any case, Sunday's incident ratchets up tensions with China – which have been roiled in recent weeks, not only by a series of similar incidents, but also on account of issues broader than China's claims to virtually the whole of the South China Sea. To begin with, the U.S. claims that the USNS Impeccable was manned by civilians and was just going about its undefined business when, suddenly, those big bad Chinese started "harassing" us – the bullies! But wait. Take a look at the Impeccable: Keep Reading, Daily News Of and For Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Why would the Chinese want to harass the US Navy, when they are advertising River Cruises in China. They are inviting us to come take a look, for example Beijing to Shanghai. Although it looks like they want to Check our Credit before we embark on, This 17-day odyssey explores China’s cradle of culture with an epic 11-day Yangtze cruise between Chongqing and Nanjing. I think they might have been following the trends in our Markets Here. It appears Beijing is feeling nostalgic for America's Reagan Era Here.

No Stimulus for American Military Veterans. We can spend money on why pigs smell but for some reason our Government thinks this is a good idea - Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance.
Keep Reading Here. I have already posted an opinion on this topic Here.

Then there is the escalating Mexican Drug Gang Violence, taking place across our Southern Border, and spilling over into American cities, Phoenix, Atlanta, Birmingham. Obama was cautious, however. "We've got a very big border with Mexico," he said. "I'm not interested in militarizing the border." Keep Reading Here. I really don't see a request of 1,000 National Guardsmen as militarizing the border but it looks like the Mexican Gangs don't have the same problem with recruitment or assigning their troops Keep reading Here.

All For The Love Of The Irish, St Patrick's Day March 17th

It's that time of year again St Patrick's Day is March 17th, although a lot of partying will be starting this weekend. We don't believe in putting things off GRIN.

WE HEAVED a sigh of relief this week when that invitation from the White House finally dropped on to Brian Cowen’s doormat. Things are bad enough at home, without the Taoiseach having to endure the indignity of being snubbed by a fellow Offalian across the Atlantic.

“I am delighted to accept President Obama’s invitation to Washington on St Patrick’s Day,” said Brian. “The celebration of our national day in the White House is a great tradition which reflects the enduring friendship between Ireland and the United States. Keep Reading HERE.

The 300-mile race is the second qualifying race for Alexie before the 2009 Iditarod and is considered to be the toughest mid-distance sled-dog race in the world.

The first qualifying race Alexie completed was Alaska’s Gin Gin 200 Dog Sled Race in December, in which he placed fifth in the men's division with a time of 10 hours, 48 minutes, after battling 40 mph winds and temperatures that reached minus 40.

In line with National Guard recruiting and retention efforts, the National Guard Bureau is sponsoring Alexie to race in the 2009 Iditarod, to be held in March.

Imus & Mary Matalin Discuss Republican Lawn Furniture

Mary Matalin Imus's guest this morning on Imus in the Morning. Mary and Imus discuss Michael Steele, head of the RNC, and his apology to Rush Limbaugh. Imus, remarks Michael Steele can't fold up like a cheap lawn chair. Mary Matalin, believes that Rush is right, and Michael Steele is forgetting that Rush had him on his show when the Democrats, were savaging Michael Steele. Mary thinks Steele has a short memory, where is his loyalty? Steele referred to Rush as just an entertainer. Imus brings up Rush's speech at CPAC, and that they had two or three additional ballrooms besides the one Rush was speaking in so people could watch and listen. Mary is taking her daughter to a Britney Spears concert tonight, and she says that Britney better not go off the deep end. I don't think there will be any tongue exchanges I hope. I don't want to have to walk out in the middle of a concert with my 10 year old. Imus brings up Iraq, he tells Mary that "They- The Bush Administration" can consider Iraq a success because a Hummer Dealership opened up in Baghdad. Imus thinks President Obama has no idea what he is talking about, in regards to Iraq or Afghanistan. He will be in the same mess in Afghanistan that Lyndon Johnson was in Vietnam. Mary tells Imus I don't need you to Validate Me. You Can listen to Mary Matalin on Imus In The Morning Here.
